Dock Owners...looking for input

I am looking for a little ■■■■■■■■ from any dock owners about a little summer work I might do. I work in the summers as a mate and also do a lot of boat detailing around Charleston and Columbia. I helped out a friend last year put sealant on his dock and it seemed like an opportunity similar to the boat detailing…something very tedious that people need done and don’t want to do the work themselves. I would mainly be targeting people with longer docks who don’t want to put in the long hours putting sealant on the docks themselves. The biggest concern I have is the materials cost…I did a 385 ft dock with double railings on both sides and the floating dock and went through a little over $300 in sealant. With the labor and materials, a dock like that would be about $450 to $500. Does anyone think this is something I should look into? Do people care enough about their docks to put sealant on them to protect them? Its a lot of money, but I figured long docks are a pretty big investment and people would pay to take care of them. I would charge by the foot and make adjustments based on whether there are railings or not. If anyone has any ■■■■■■■■, positive or negative, please let me know. Post it here, PM me, or email me at streiselrt@email.wofford.edu.
Thanks,

most of the dock companies offer pressure washing and water sealing.
it’s actually a hard item to sell, especially on the longer docks where the cost runs up over $1000.

most people think if the dock is useable then all is good.

you also have to have a letter of maintenance and repair from scdhec ocrm to do that work.

good luck.
