Does anyone own a sailing kayak?

Does anyone own a sailing kayak?</font id=“Arial Black”></font id=“size1”></font id=“size6”></font id=“size6”></font id=“size1”></font id=“size6”></font id=“green”> I have a hobie adventurer, complete with sail and mirage drive. I frequently go fishing on the yak with friends, but alas they have no sail. If you have a sail, or are planning on getting one, it would be nice to hear from you. I’d love to go sailing in the ocean if anyone is interested. Maybe troll around some lures in company would be totally awesome.

It sounds like I’m on my own so far as sailing yaks. I guess no one has one other than me in the Charleston area.

These look like a ton of fun.

Many go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Will sell for $6500 (Make offer all i can say is no) or trade for a Tandem Adventure island + $2500

Yeah, but expensive. It’s what I have an adventure. But no one to sail with unfortunately.

Well, unfortunately several days, 110 views but no responses. So I guess I’m sailing solo in the spring.

Hey Salty, Picked up a 3 year old Hobie Mirage Outback today. It didn’t include a sail, but will keep an eye out for one. Not sure it would really keep up with the adventure or not. Do you think it might? Or is it in completely different class?

Will someone please go sailing with Salty/Taekwondo/Henry?

Mountain man:

Hey that is awesome. Congrats on your new boat. That is one of the best boats to own, ask Lewis. You can paddle, peddle or sail. Plus they are very stable and well laid out. You will love it.

as regards to sailing, no worries. It doesnt matter if my boat sails faster or your a better sailer, it’s just to go out and have fun right? So long as you can move free with the wind, you can troll easily behind you and catch fish. I trolled a ratltrap around the jetties and caught a red, but it got off at the boat as I didn’t have a net and was careless.

I do hope you get a sail and we can sail together in the spring when it gets a bit warmer or on a warm afternoon now. Best of luck to you.

Lewis:

Thanks for the help, no worries. I sailed from St. Maarten to Florida so I’m a pretty knowledgeable sailor, just prefer to go with someone vs. solo. But hey thanks for looking out for me.

Salty, Agree with you on the fun part. Just thought if you did 8 knots and I did 3, then we really wouldn’t be sailing together  I will only get a sail if I can pick up a used one. My wife is already annoyed that I went with the peddle drive instead of paddle because I will not get the core workout of the paddle. So she may divorce me if I use a sail and don’t get any exercise.

I already picked up one of those compact folding nets at Walmart ($12 I think). It has an extension on it. Used it too land my largest trout to date  Thanks for the well wishes.

If your wife divorces you that means more time to fish and kayak!! So long as she doesn’t try to take the boat in the divorce it’s ok. LOL Just kidding, I hope not!

My boat with the little sail does around 4-5 nautical miles, so I wouldn’t sweat it too much. In the beginning I made a sail out of pvc, and tarps, but then found a used one in almost new condition for 200.00 so it was a no brainer.

Remember it’s better to beg forgiveness, than to do without a toy. IMHO.

Saltyyakker,
I should have a sail rig by Spring. If so, I’ll go.

I’ve got an old shower curtain and a broomstick - lets go sailing!

Sounds good EZA, if you get it shoot me a pm and I’ll send my number.

Lewis:

make a sail out of pvc and a tarp. You already have the mount.
