I have recently made it a goal of mine to get very familiar and consistent with the Folly area. I have noticed that what works other places doesn’t work at Folly for me. I use one set of techniques for all of the other water I fish but it seems in order to catch fish at Folly I have to go a completely different direction (both in the types of areas I fish and the way I fish). Has anybody else experienced this? Any thoughts on why?
what is so different? what does not work for you at Folly? I have fished it for years and it seems pretty typical to me
I love to fish really skinny water and I do that effectively other places but really struggle doing well with that at Folly. I find that at Folly I have to go to main channels versus way up some random creek. I love to fish in a foot of water way back up some creek and I haven’t been able to find that scenario at Folly yet, i’m sure it is there I just haven’t found it yet, so i find myself on main rivers beating the bank.
I’m a dock builder and see Reds so shallow their backs are dry- keep trying, you will find em
Yeah, I have fished Folly a long time as well as most of the other rivers in the Charleston area, always been the same for me.
Folly is the easiest for me just because its compact. If you stick to the basics you will have more success. The flats fishing at folly can be tough. These fish are residential and familiar with the area. When the feel the pressure of a approaching boat or motor noise. The schools don’t bite much and when I’ve chased them with there backs out I’ve never caught them. it feels like the lotto when you find them and then you never get a hit. Its similar feeling to hitting a few foul homers and then striking out. It doesn’t entirely sting but you are left wanting.
