I had a couple of free hours Saturday morning so I decided to take the kayak out and try my luck. Saw lots of bait and lots of fish but unfortunately I couldn’t get anything to bite. The entire time I was fishing I also kept seeing this green rattling cork popping up from time to time. Right as I was getting ready to head back in I saw the rattling cork one more time and threw my line out to see if I could hook it. Million to one shot. After about 5 minutes of fighting I pulled this guy into the yak… 30" red. I freed him from his previous entanglement and sent him on his way. So my question is… since I didn’t actually hook him and hooked the rattling cork instead… does this still count?
yes, it counts. Nice fish!

Good job setting him free. Might want to aim those chompers a different direction next time. OUCH!

Yeah it counts, its much easier to get a fish to bite than to hook a popping cork as it swims by. I’d say thats something to brag about!

By all means…it counts! If you don’t believe us, ask the fish.
That counts as a double. I would guard big Jim and the twins a little better though [:0]

One time my buddy popped a red off at the dock and before he could swim off I grabbed a gig and scooped the cork up with the gig tines and dropped him on the dock. Obviously it counted as my fish at that point.

Awesome story and nice fish.

Definitely counts…buddy of mine was fishing with me and he hooked some fishing line. I told him to pull it in the boat to get it out of the water. Low and behold 30 yds later a 18" Flounder. He counted it twice once for the pic and once for the story.

Definitely have to agree the fish counts. The fish looks a little on the thin side, so probably hungry. You really may want to reconsider mouth placement haha!!!

^^^ that was the best one
That’s awesome. Nice catch and setting him free.
Keep your lines tight and remember. Respect the fish and your fellow fisherman. Know the Code.
Absolutely. We have had many days where a fish breaks off the line and we make it a point to collect our cork(s) before leaving. We watch the corks carefully and have a good idea of where to find the fish when heading home. There is always a fish attached and it has to be good karma to get the cork and line out of the water and set the fish free.

I did the same exact thing on Sunday with an Alligator Gar and a float. Still takes the skill of getting hook set on the line. Nice catch
