Does with yerlins.

Just wanting to get your thoughts and opinions on shooting mature does with first year fawns. Do you believe it puts the yerlin at risk of predation or do you think will survive as normal? Thanks.

They will be fine without mama at this point in the year.

Let it rip. Might have to shoo them off but they gotta grow up sometime.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Lol I got lucky and had another large doe come out by herself so I shot her. Finally some sausage and cube steak on the way.

The yearlings eat the best  They’ll be fine without mamma though.

I have always heard that if you shoot a doe with the fawn the fawn will never leave that piece of property. Not sure if it is true.

guess that would depend on how big the property is.

I guess its more of a ethical question then. Ive always had a problem with a tender heart. I don’t think I’d have a problem with it if I was hungry but the fridge is full you know lol.

I asked Charles Ruth at dnr about this. He assured me that fawns at 9/15 are fully capable of avoiding predation (coyotes) and they darn sure can eat corn!

I’ve heard a fawn can make it on it’s own after 3 weeks? Personally I will only shoot a doe with fawns if it is a necessity to save a crop or asked to by a land owner.

What Cracker said on the eating! You can’t beat the tenderness of a 60lb deer. A waste of money if you take it to the processor though. imo.

I’ve never took a deer to a processor. I can clean a 60 lb. deer and have it ready for the freezer in 30 minutes.

If I get one over 150lbs it gets taken to Breland Processor. $65 bucks for basic processing, you can’t bet it. Cleanest place I’ve ever been. I guess getting older and able to afford it makes it worth while. + I love their maple sausage.

30min? Man, your slow!
