Doesn't look too bad..........

Long Enuff and I changed out my water pump today. This is the second time that I have changed it. The first one was changed at 870 hours, and I decided to go ahead and change this one at 1634 hours. I have used my boat more in the salt this time and wanted to do it to see how it has held up. It looks pretty good still, just like the first one did. Thanks again LE!! It is always a great time whether we are fishing or working on s’thing…

Here are a couple of pics of the old impellers. The first one that was changed is on the top in the first pic, and on the left in the rest. I’m not quite sure why I have kept the impellers, but…

I can’t imagine changing the pump out every couple hundred hours…

Now you got 2 backups.

Probably recommend every couple hundred hours just so guys will apply grease to the drive shaft splines, shifter splines and the area that the drive shaft busing rides on.

Nice photos Lynn. I just had Chris V change mine after 325 hours. Just hate to be offshore with single engine and have water pump failure.

True! My splines and shaft were still coated pretty decent…</font id=“size2”>

Good deal! It’s better to know for sure what shape your equipment is in, especially us single prop guys!!:wink:</font id=“size2”>

They actually look pretty bad. I’m sure the output was way down, but obviously not enough to cause problems. I had to do some testing regarding water pumps where I had to run one dry for awhile. We were also taking flow reading before and after. We inspected the impeller after running dry for about one minute and it looked remarkably good (much, much better than yours) the only perceptible wear was at the tip of the impeller and along the edges where the rib is molded in. Again, the wear was very slight. However, after running a flow test the volume of water was reduced by 25-33%. I bet flow was reduced on yours by more than 50%. Good thing the engineers design the engine for this.

The flow may have been reduced, but by the naked eye, it was peeing a stream the same. There was only a little wear compared side by side to the new one. I said not bad due to the amount of hours put on them. I have seen some in a lot worse shape with a lot less hours…

Getting ready to try it for the first time on my little 70 Yamaha. Hopefully it will go with no major problems.

Neutral or in gear? Where did you get them? Thanks.
