Na! I bought a new 69 the day after I got home from Nam though. That SOB would run. Been a MOPAR man ever since! I have an 02 Ram PU with the Hemi in it. It goes pretty good too. I almost bought a 69 Runner I found in Ga a couple of years ago. It was all original and only 2 owners. The guy wanted $10,000 for it. I guess I’m getting old because I didn’t buy it because it had no AC. I could kick my ass now! The one I want is a Hemi Cuda convertible! I was just seeing if Cracker would like that for style? Oh, I do need help on the VHF though! Can’t get it to show the GPS data!
PS: I gave a 500HP VET a run for his money red light to red light and asked him if he wanted to buy it! He asked me, How Much?

I’m more of a Boss Mustang guy, but I’ll be glad to help with the VHF.
Both the GPS and VHF have a NMEA cable. You will need the manual for each to determine the wire colors, for some reason they aren’t standard.
The GPS will have a wire listed as NMEA Out +, NMEA Out -, and a ground
This connects to the VHF NMEA In + and NMEA In -, ground to ground. So just hook Out + to In +, Out - to In -, and ground to ground.
What I like about Yakmans style is that he’s 14 years old, loves fishing, works hard and conducts himself well in the company of adults. He gives me hope for our future.

Larry, I am about to upgrade my radio as well. I have a Garmin chart plotter, do you think its better to get a Garmin radio so they play nice together? I like the Raymarine 49 but I don’t want compatibility issues. I know NMEA stuff is supposed to play nice together but I also know from working on electronics its not always the case.
No need for that Matt, Garmin isn’t famous for their radios anyway and whatever you get should work well together, the data format is standard even if the color codes of the wires are not.
I’ve got a Standard Horizon wired to a Humminbird GPS and a Uniden wired to a Raymarine GPS. No problems. The Uniden has been a piece of junk radio though, not happy at all with it.

I don’t know Cracker and MattR. I’ve got a new Lorance HDS-5 Gen 2 and a new ICOM 504A and I’ve hooked them up the way Cracker says! It’s the same way the book says to hook them up and nothing! I even hooked up the old Garmin I am replacing and can’t get a GPS data reading on the radio. Both GPS’s are showing satellites and display data but nothing at the radio end. I’m about ready to sent the radio back to ICOM to have it checked out. I’ve talked to Both Lorance and ICOM a couple of times, to see if I was missing a setting or something and nothing, so far!
Don’t know what to say about that, Easy I’ve hooked up many of them just like that. Are you sure you are using the output wires of the GPS to the input wires of the VHF, out to in, + to + and - to - ? The GPS and radio may both have additional outputs or inputs that will be unused.
I confess to have never wired a Lowrance HDS Gen2 though. Don’t know what to tell you and I’m too far away to look at it. Would if I could though.

Yeah! I’ve wired it like you and the book say. I’ve put a multimeter on the + and - out put wires on the GPS and seem to be OK on that end. Hard to beleive that 2 GPS’s arn’t putting out. I’ve got to be missing something. Both the radio and the GPS’s speak the same sentences.
