On the Ashley. Anyone have any experience with them?
Good or bad. Looking to get
bottom painted.
Haven’t heard anything lately, but there has been enough horror stories coming from there that I wouldn’t take the chance. From my personal dealings, I wouldn’t have anything to do with them, if you get a quote on the price, make sure you have it in writing. There’s a reason they are the cheapest around.
Had my boat there for a season. I have friends who have had there boat there for many years. I, personally, never had any problems with the crew that operated the marina. It’s an old place that has been there for long time, run by the same family. The docks and facilities show their age. If you like an old-timey rough-around-the-edges marina, this is the place. There are a bunch of “live aboards” that hang out at the picnic tables, nice people and friendly. You want your boat in the water, you call them an hour ahead of time and it’s there waiting for you, gassed up if you ask (gas price is high), and they’ll put ice in the cooler for you as well. As with any marina they probably don’t do the wash down as well as you may like, but they do it and they flush the motor as well. You give the dock hands a tip once in a while and they treat you well. They used to have the cafe open, which was great for a cold beer after being on the water all day. The price is relatively inexpensive, we paid $12/ft dry stacked. if you have any specific questions, let me know.

i’ve only been there a few times, a friend kept a boat there and had no real complaints. though one time i was there a 31’ (or so) fountain had been dropped on it’s side by the forklift operator. we asked about it, as it was sitting right up front… the guy was trying to blame the owner of the boat b/c he did not raise his trim tabs up.
would love to know what came of that.
Thanks for info. I know hull and running gear are good I just don’t need someone calling me with a “uh, we found a problem” story when all she needs is paint.
also a great place to pick up some crystal meth if you are in need of…
Boatless
Oh yeah. A little crystal on a carolina rig. Hold on tight
have they found any more dead bodies floating up around there lately?
Before you carry your boat over there, remove any valuables, take an inventory of whats left on the boat, remove any personal items, take any electronics off as well. You might find some of your stuff being installed on other peoples boats
Dry stacked/stored a boat there for a few years. They took very good care of it. No problems with them.
Have a close friend who was a live aboard there years ago. The other live a boards are friendly and vigilant. You got to go through the hood to get there, but there’s good security ( or at least was )in the form of fences and gates. I’ve never heard any substantiated ill rumors to their reputation.
Stopped by there this weekend. The building is huge inside but unfortunately filled with more trash and crap then boats. Sad to see this place in its currently condition. Talk about a place with potential!
With a cool restaurant (like a Hooters), docks, the ability to store and rack big CC, and most important someone with a ton of money to bring it up to speed and bring people in, the place could be awesome.
When I had my previous boat, they were the only place that would work on a Volvo I/O. I took it to them for the 200 hour service. I was not impressed with the quality of their work and they didn’t put the boat back on the trailer correctly. They used the $16 spark plugs instead of the $3 spark plugs that Volvo called for for that engine. They couldn’t figure out that the house battery had a seperate switch so they claimed the VHF and lights “inoperative”.
Obviously, this is just my one personal experience, but based on that experience, I would not recommend them for any service work. There are other companies who will bottom paint your boat and have a better reputation. Ross Marine for one, and I understand they sometimes have special deals on bottom painting.
