Left Wappoo Cut right at 0400. Got out to the jetties and ran to the SWB. Sea’s had some chop at the end of the jetties as always. We ran about 30mph the whole way to the SWB to save on fuel. I heard a ton of people in big boats talking about how ruff it was out there in the AM. Was pretty nice if you ask me. Ran up on a nice weed line at 0655 about 4 miles from the SWB. Got everything ready and dropped lines in at 0701. Headed North then South. First pass South on the East side of the weeds we had our first one in the boat. No long after that had another strike that ended up getting off. Headed back North with no luck then South again. Had two more hits on the lines that got off.
We picked up and headed East of the SWB and then trolled South in 450 feet. Picked up another nice weed line and got 3 more in the boat in 30 mins or so. Around 1pm we pulled the lines up. Didn’t want to get stuck like we did on April 2nd with the seas blowing up. They had been calling for white caps all day and 20mph winds. Didn’t see a single white cap all day and we rolled in doing between 45 and 50mph the whole way back.
Only seen 3 or 4 boats up North all day. Everyone on the radio seemed to be getting fish in the boat. I’m still in shock at how off the forecast was. I fully expected to get to the jetties and turn around.
Chad tried getting you on the radio Friday but didn’t get ya. We turned around after about 20 miles Friday pretty bumpy out of edisto figured why beat the boat to crap when we didn’t have to. Was gonna fish Saturday and broke the trailer at the ramp so it was a no go for us. Glad you had some good seas there was nobody going out Friday when we went and got 2 reports of guys that turned around Saturday we were gonna try it till we broke. Good report
I think he means they fished the Dolphin Slam Tournament sand monkey. Good to know there is a requirement of 40 fish to call your day a dolphin slam though, never knew that:smiley:
