Going to be in Punta Cana, DR in early April any reccomendations on charters?
We went last September. It was a last minute all inclusive vacation my wife booked to the Dreams Resort. Our main goal was R&R without kids for a couple of days and she said she really was not all that interested having a fishing trip take up an entire day. I packed a small spinner and a travel rod with some basic inshore tackle to be on the safe side. (I take this set up on every trip I take just in case I find a spot to fish close to the resort.) Got down there and the resort had some paddle boat catamarans. Gave the guys a couple of bucks and we paddled that joker out a couple of miles to some good bottom. Used some scented grubs, bucktail jigs, and heavy spoons. Also took some salmon from the breakfast bar at the resort. The salmon on small hooks raised all kinds of grouper and snapper. Nothing really big, but a lot of fun on light tackle, figured by the time it took for the drop we were in between 60 AND 90 feet. Took the fish back to the guys working the activities center at the resort and they were extremely grateful. Water clarity was excellent. In hindsight should have taken some small vertical jigs with us. A sebiki would have been nice to have to catch some bait with as well. I did not see many fishing charter boats when we were there, just a couple on the trip across the island, but nothing within sight of our resort. This is a very poor county, I would not recommend traveling outside the resort without another couple or a “legit” cab lined up by the captain or the resort. Good luck and have fun, be careful of the local drink Manawana Sp? it will put a hurting on you.
Fished down there in July last year with Sea Check charters (based out of Stuart, FL). Had a great time and caught 2 blues and 2 whites. Be warned though, it’s pretty rough in that channel. It was probably 6-8’ going out for the first 10 miles and then 4-6’ when we were fishing.
