Don't know what I'm doing wrong

Walked 3 different flats over the past few days with nothing to show for. Only saw one fish and he wasn’t tailing( he was close enough to grab) so I didnt even get the chance to cast at him. I don’t kno what I’m doing wrong but I never see to see any tails. And I know there is a ton a food for the reds on the flats I walk. Always see tons of fiddlers shrimp and mullet. Anyone have any pointers for me or maybe some extra time to take a guy to a good flat

Topography is key… just because there is bait there doesn’t mean the redfish will be there… Look for flats with multiple avenues or escape for them… the more secure they feel the more they will come onto a flat. If you aren’t seeing fish try getting to the flat while it is still high and dry and camp out. Just observe the flat through a high tide cycle and see if there are fish on it. You may just have a flat that’s not as attractive to the fish as it is to you. Also don’t cast at the first fish you see, especially if it is right as the water is flooding in… let him come onto the flat and bring a few friends before you cast at them. Hope this helps. if ya want PM me the location, not specific, like “off the wando” or “off this part of the ICW” or some general area and I’ll let ya know what I know and suggest a spot of two to try…

I walked a flat I found off the ICW today. The last two times I have been there I saw one tailer. I am new .to this and am wondering if the fish will show up in bigger numbers as the weather cools down. What do you guys think?

When the water cools down, the crabs bury in the mud and the bait moves offshore and leaves. This is when the tailing stops and they start to school up and you need to start winter fishing tactics… Some flats are loaded some only have a few fish, sometimes a flat that is slow this year will be gangpiled up the next… it’s all part of the game we play with the redfish… It’s my favorite part… even when I get the Redfish middle-finger

I know what you mean. Yesterday was awesome just being out there and watching the bait and the birds with the sun setting, and then to see that spotted tail wave at ya, it dont get much better,at least untill one picks up a fly.
