Trailer, dropper, what ever you want to call them do you guys ever use the double fly approuch. I took my buddy out last weekend for his first saltwater fish on the fly. He was a fresh water trout guild in Avon Colorado when we were in school so he knows how to fly fish. When I showed him the flys we were going to use, mostly poppers and skrimp. He tied on the popper and trailed in with a shrimp. I thought this was a great idea but have never seen it done before. the only bad thing about this set up I could see was it takes away from accuracy and distance of your cast and took a little action off the popper. Unfortunatly the trout were feeding deep so getting them on live but no luck OTF. Does anyone use this technique does it work, and when.

Yep. One of my favorite rigs is a crease fly or Bob’s banger with a very small fluorocarbon trailer with a ultra shrimp in tow. Works great, like a shrimp under a popping cork. When casting make sure to open your loops.

I did it a lot wiht a wolly bugger and a droppe nymph and it worked like a champ in Colorado for trout, had MANY MANY double hook ups on browns and bows, but haven’t even thought about it for salt… good idea thanks for jogging the memory

Deer hair popper or minnow with a small shrimp or crab pattern trailer. When you twith the popper it makes the trailer jump nicely.
So much water, So little time
I second Shadow’s message on opening your loops with a double fly set-up. Tough to do if trying to get distance and if you’re used to heaving a big clouser (or equivalent). Practice some, and it should work well. Good Luck
