Double Line to Leader Connection

There is tons of info out there on single line connections (braid/mono and mono/mono), but not much for doubled main lines. I’d love to get everyone’s opinion.

What’s your favorite knot to go from a double mono main line to heavy leader? How about from double braided main line to heavy leader?

Thanks,

Bryson

I usually end the double line with a good quality snap swivel for easy leader changes, and use an offshore trolling hitch to attach the double line to the swivel.

If I’m trolling I do as Larry does and put on a snap swivel for quick changes. If I’m jigging, I tie a short bimini in the braid and use a double uni to attach the leader. That might be seen by some as overkill. but I haven’t had that connection break yet and there have been some big AJ’s that have tried to break it.

Yeah, when trolling I definitely use a snap swivel. I’m heading down to the Keys next week for some tarpon fishing, and I got antsy and tied biminis in some of my spinning gear. I can use a swivel, but I’m planning on some fairly long leaders and I don’t want to risk damaging my eyelet by reeling a swivel into it at night.

For the braid, I can always just cut the bimini and tie an FG knot to the leader, although I like the idea of having the bimini in there. For the mono, I’m not as sure. Would a surgeons knot still work with a double mono main line? Scoobie, you use a double uni – I know it’s not the strongest out there for regular connections, but it’s one of the only connections that I’ve seen people tie with double line. Maybe it’s the best out there for that scenario?

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming!

Not sure if it’s the best or not. I just use knots that I am good enough with that I can tie them on a rocking boat, so for me the Bimini and double uni fit the bill.

A Bimini or spider hitch to a Bristol (or “no name” knot) is pretty easy to tie and regularly rates at the highest of Sport Fishing Mags tests. I use a uni to uni pretty frequently too, because I’m so used to it.

Yucatan or Bristol Knots work well for leader to double line.

I use the Albright Special for most all line to leader , either braid to mono , small mono to heavier mono… easy to tie even with bad eyesight like mine.:smiley:not had one to fail YET !!!
