I’m with you on the check stations. That always was a good time just if nothing else than to hang out on Saturday just to see who brought what in and to BS with all the other hunters coming in. I also miss the biggest gobbler and longest beard contests that went on every year. Now they don’t do it because nobody comes any more.

Very true. One of the feed stores that I liked to check birds in near my uncles farm in Jasper County had posters all along the wall with hunters names, dates, turkey weights, beard lengths, etc. Was always cool to talk with other hunters checking birds - and even to the DNR guys that showed up occasionally to check the hunters! Ha.
