USFWS has approved a 90 day season this year which gives us 20 more days to hunt doves this year. SCDNR is proposing to add a week to each of the three current segments. I do not agree with what they are proposing and suggest that they survey the hunters to see what we want. Please get the word out about the changes and email or call Willie Simmons if you want your voice heard.
I do support the extra days but want them allocated differently.

when do you want them?
I think 6 weeks is enough for the first season. The birds need a break. I would like to see the entire month of November. I could live with an extra two weekends during November and the rest added to December.

I would prefer adding in January.
Dates have to be between September 1 and January 15.

I’d like to have the extra days in December. That way we can have the advantage of cold fronts moving the migratory birds through during an active season. Closing it after the Thanksgiving season all the way through the middle of December cancels out some prime early season cold fronts that ultimately move birds through SC and on down to Florida.

Anything would be better than wasting a week at the end of the first season. USFWS link below…
