Some of us older folks can remember when the personal income tax was at 70%-previews of coming attractions?

cute bonzo. this admin is blaming everything else on W.

last night CNBC had a lady chart technician on, Louis Yamada I think. she was looking at a long term chart.

e.g.http://stockcharts.com/charts/historical/spx1960.html

she said the double top predicts a much larger drop in SPX beyond what we’ve seen in 2009. ominous.

Well, I never in all my 71 years thought I would see times like these.
I am truly beginning to wonder what our president and his cronies are
really up to.
Looks to me that their irresponsible economic actions may just be masking their true agenda which is to turn our country into a socialist democracy, or worse, with them in power.
They are too inexperienced to appreciate what the worldwide consequences of their actions may be; or maybe they are just vengeful-payback time!
Kind of reminds me of the Japs coming in behind the storm to attack Pearl Harbor.

It’s kind of hard to blame stuff like this on Bush. Take AIG for instance. How would Bush know what AIG is doing on a day to day basis in their financial pruducts division? If you blame Bush, wouldn’t you also blame all the other world leaders involved that are now too in a global recession? MOST of America thought that we had a strong economy for the past 5-7 years. Don’t fix it if it isn’t broken. He was focused on security and the war in Iraq. It’s VERY EASY to look back at everything that went wrong AFTER the fact (hindsight is 20-20), but I don’t remember many people complaining about the economy just a few short years ago.

I think that the government is in a panick right now and doing everything that they can do try to maintain order in hopes that they can buy time until things start to turn around… Maybe, by the time people really have it figured out, we’ll already have some sort of stability.

But, if you want to know the really scary part? We could be a third world country tomorrow. If China really wanted to cave us in, all they need to do is to stop buying our treasuries\bonds and the value of the dollar would collapse like a rock. It would be a WW3 without even firing the first bullet. I saw on TV yesterday (yes, PQ it was on CNBC) that the value of the USD is at the highest it’s been in 3 years!!! Tell me why this is so, when our economy has plummented over the past 18 months? 2 reasons that make sense to me: 1) Other economies also in a global crisis and 2) Money being whisped out of the stock market has no other place to go except into treasuries creating a demand on the dollar. If the world ever figures out a new “safe place” to put their dollars, then we are truly doomed. Warren Buffet made an interesting comment a few days ago calling treasuries the next “bubble”. I wish that he elaborated on that, but I can only think that he means an immenent collapse.

Yes, there is economic war too!
Good post.

I’m starting to agree with your prognostications. I am a pure “technician” though, I don’t analyze the why, just the price action.
