I have spent a decent amount of time fishing over the past couple months and just cannot seem to find the fish. This has been my most unlucky stretch since moving here. I’ve spent most time inshore fishing for reds and trout from Sullivans up to bull island. Tried everything I could think mud minnows, live mullet, paddle tails, vudu shrimp and all on bottom and under cork. Also spent this last weekend at the Jetties with cut mullet, minnows, shrimp on bottom and also took some fiddlers for sheeps head. Caught several black drum, one red, one sheepshead, but nothing to keep. Is anyone else having troubles too or is this just me? Makes it even worse that I’ve had friends visiting a couple weekends to do some fishing and have not been able to put them on anything. Starting to get embarrassing. Any input/suggestions would help.
Worry more about finding the fish. Gotta be at the right place at the right tide…

El Nino sucks. Can’t wait for it to go.

Fishing ain’t luck, it’s about knowing when, where, how and why. It takes a lot of time on the water and I can’t tell you how to do it here. The more you fish and learn the better your luck will be.
Fish have to eat every day, no matter what the weather, El Nino or not, and they are eating somewhere. When it’s hot I fish deep.

That’s what makes fishing in any coastal area a challenge. The fish’s environment changes every 6 hours: you may be in the right spot, with the right bait, but at the wrong tidal stage. Or, the right tide, right bait, wrong spot, etc. A spot that seemed dead might come alive when 2 more feet of water comes in. It makes it both challenging and frustrating.
