Downlines Murray 7/21 Night

Got on the water around 9:00 and passed Striperskiff getting setup alone. Headed to my hump outside of Jakes and anchored up with the light. Bait was already there, but no fish. Some more bait came in 20 minutes later, but it never got near as thick as last week. I never marked any big fish, and it showed as we brought fish into the boat. Caught 7 from 20" to 23". Went through 2 dozen bait in 2.5 hours and only killed one in the live well. Guess my new homemade aerator pump works. I had so many bubbles I coudn’t see the bait.

Maybe next time I will try some deeper water, 50’ may be too shallow. Need a good hump in the 60’-80’ range.

Jeremy, I wouldn’t even worry about finding a place to anchor. Next time you go late in the evening, unless it’s too windy, just head out to the big water and drift. Head up wind and stop where the wind will blow you back over a good amount of deep water. It’s good to have a drift sock, but trolling motor will due too. It gets hard to know exactly what depth your baits are at once you start drifting too fast.

Put your baits down about 50 -55’, for right now, and just drift and you will eventually mark/catch some fish. Then just hold there until it dries up and continue to drift. I’d try and have lines in the water by about 45 min before sun set.

Almost can’t miss!
