Yesterday as I was pulling up a chum bag on my down rigger the cable broke randomly…fair enough it was the original cable. I’m glad it happened when it did since I was pulling it up to attach my go pro to it and drop that down! Anyway, what should I replace the cable with? Thanks

250lb braid unless you tournament king fish and are worried about cut offs, then bigger mini so the lighter line can cut the DR line dropping your weight but saving your fish.
Agreed, for tournament fishing I use 150lb mono. 20lb mono cuts through it like butter. Sucks to lose downrigger balls but better than losing a $10,000 fish! For non-tournament fishing braid is the way to go…

Can you slide a swivel down braid like the ss cable?
Also will braid handle a Z wing?

Yes. Probably slides easier, that braid is slick. I have pulled up to a #12 planer. Just make sure your rod holder or mounting bracket will handle it. That is a lot of pressure from the planer dragging in the water.
Seem like i recall reading on THT, about cracking the spools who using braid, think they have aluminum spools, Cannon product that is.
