Im changing out the mono I use on my downrigger, and thought "I wonder how braided line would work, and if it does, what test? What would be the advantages and the disadvantages of braid to mono,or mono to braid? Thanks
Braid will get down deeper with less drag( blow back) . I would use as high as I could find. We run 400 mono on ours but all we do is pull a dredge of it.
If you plan to pull a z-wing off of it braid can’t handle it. I still like regular old cable myself.
I just changed mine out to Larry Brown 300lb. braid.
It was recommended to me by Chuck at Tournament Cable over steel or mono.
He say’s the cable rusts (which mine did) and the mono is to stretchy.
Makes sense. I found a 150yd spool on line for $50.
Also, with the braid you don’t need crimps. Just good knots.
