Anyone ever use downriggers trolling? My uncle is giving me one to troll with. Never used one before. Figured I could catch maybe some tuna that way. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

I usually pull one when meat fishing unless there are a lot of weeds around. Particularly in shallower water and around the ledge. Have been most useful for wahoo although there have been trips where the dolphin have preferred them. When I was fishing the CCs where I could not pull a dredge from your outriggers, the downrigger was most useful to me to pull the dredge behind. If I had to choose I would prefer a dredge in the water to a bait on a downrigger or planer. I would usually pull a purple or red and black wahoo wacker with a ballyhoo on mine. They are kind of labor intensive, particularly getting cleared and reset so if it is not producing or we are catching them on top I will take it out. Just my 2cents.

They are a great help in Wahoo catching,it takes a full time man to handle my 3. But I think it is worth it!
