Downtown Cola Striper

Anyone heard any reports of Striper moving up the river(s) yet? I was thinking of putting in at the landing at the end of Rosewood Drive this weekend and fishing the lochs and sandbars, but I have lost touch with people that used to fill me in on the best time to try it.

Any help is appreciated!

dry heave, I was downriver last weekend and saw a lot of guys chunking artificials around the 1st sandbar. Have heard reports that there are more sublegal fish in the river than in years past. good luck.

thanks riverman - do you mean the sandbar right there by I77? I won’t feel comfortable venturing real far from the rosewood landing till I work on my motor a bit. Also - any herring in the river yet around drainage pipes or feeder creeks?

I used to get my river info from striped-bass-fishing . com but they shut down. I have seen birds working bait downtown, so I bet the bait is in. Bait usually comes in before the striper. Hopefully more come up this year than last, but I doubt it. All the stockings will take a while to get keepers up here. I just had surgery monday and it will be a few weeks before I can lift batteries in the boat, so I may be trying out the river.

it was about this time last year I saw a guy bring in 2 good size striper right under the Gervais bridge…opposite side of road from Museum there is a rapid right there. don’t know what he was fishing with but he pulled those in during the hour I was hanging out…oh and he was wading, not sure if you can reach that down far in a boat?

Thanks for the help. Will post a report sometime next week.

I went last week foot fishing by the Gervais Street Bridge and caught one small striper about 12 inches. They are definitely starting to move up the Congaree River. I am going to try again this week and will post a report on the activity.
