Originally posted by steelytomI use pheasant tails, hare ears, sucker spawn (egg sac imitation) and my favorite is gray and olive wooly buggers. I use size ten wooly buggers, they seem to weed out the tiny trout.
I have caught them in the rocks below the zoo in the late spring one day. But they may have worked there way down. I will send you a PM.
If anyone wants to fish let me know. Have been wanting to throw the fly rod on the saluda all winter. I do a lot of fishing under the blossom street bridge and thats usually pretty productive.

Any one seen any threadfin shad in the river yet or stripers?
From what I have heard the striper show up about the same time the dogwoods start to bloom. Seems to hold true.
THERE ON THE WAY
The other day I saw some gulls working baitfish. and today it smelled kind of fishy. Did you catch some on the river? How do you know they are coming?
thay follow the shad and the shad are in the river
what do yall catch them on in the river near riverbanks? i went last year down towards 601 and we used rapala shad raps.didnt catch but 2 small ones.any help?
I caught the my two biggest stripers on the river using a long A bomber. Blue and silver, 6" I beleive.
are the fish around columbia in the shallow water yet to where you can catch them walking the rocks ?
That is what they say, mostly in the congaree now. Some are starting up the Saluda. None of this information is first hand. But I have seen people fishing the from the shore at Gervais for a few weeks.

i cross the saluda at i-20 6x a day go to and from work. i’ve not seen any boats yet. last memorial day weekend was productive along that stretch for me. with as much water as they’ve been running lately, i bet you could catch em in the pools any time now.
No luck so far at the zoo. Haven’t even seen a Striper yet. It should start up soon and be as good as it will get this year by the end of May beginning of June.
Fished behind the zoo last week - No luck

I have never had luck behind the zoo. I feel like I am on the wrong side of the river when fishing there. I heard that they are not expecting many fish up in the river this year anyway. Probably the same as last year or worse. That sucks, I like the Saluda way better than murray but there are no fish. It is nice to fish without having a constant parade of boats flying by you. Plus the scenery on the river is way better (except for the hot girls laying out on boats at murray).

My spot is no secret tom but if you want to meet up one evening I’ll be glad to show you where it is. It’s a decent walk with a lot of waist deep wading. I haven’t caught many big fish since the fishing has gone downhill but I have fun with schoolies quite often.
i’ve always wanted to know where to get into some of the striper fishing wading in the river , any info would be appreciated .i don’t live close to columbia , but i do live really close to the broad river in union county and would be willing to share some good smallmouth fishing places with some of you that might be interested!!!

</font id=“red”>Sure, I don’t get out a lot but I will take you up on that. I had a spot that was good for me but last year I did not get a fish there. It was a deeper hole right against the weed line and the striper would feed right on the weed line. I figure it should be good by the end of the month. What do you usually catch them on?
It’s different every year. Last summer it was soft plastics. Summer before it was all about topwater chugbaits. Who knows what it will be this year. we’ll head down near the end of the month. I’ll make sure to contact you in advance through the site.
