Do you run a dredge fishing for mahi, wahoo and tuna? Or is it primarily for sails and marlin? If you run it off a 27 cc would you run it tied off to the cleat or through the outrigger on a teaser reel? I don’t have down riggers and probably won’t be getting them any time soon.
I have a few daisy chains but would like to step up my game this year.
Thanks
id do a block and tackle with a downrigger so you can drop it back and reel it up when hooked up… block/tackle is used to take stress off the downrigger. also allows you to have it mid boat/semi up front so its out of the way.
By Block and Tackle, I assume you mean two pulleys in line. Can I do that from a ttop mounted teaser reel to the glass eye on an outrigger? Forgive my ignorance.
I sometimes pull a small dredge from my 18’ boat. I just tie it to the T-top and work it by hand. Nothing fancy but it works.

correct… id do it off a gunnel near the front or mid ship… you could add the glass ring to the outrigger
id personally run it right off the side of the boat on a downrigger… the block/tackle pully system is to take the side pressure off the boom of the downrigger.
when you reel the downrigger in you can get the dredge at the back corner of the boat or almost out of the water this would allow you to never have to remove it completely from the water yet out of the way when bringing a fish in.

Dredges are designed to look like bait balls, and will attract all species of pelagic fish.
It is a little more involved to fish them, but well worth the effort. You will see a marked increase in fish raised.
There are plenty of good threads on here about fishing dredges.
