Went camping on Dreher Island during the week, and it as pretty uneventful. I had a hard time getting a hold of bait. George wasn’t available until Thursday, and then it rained that afternoon and really rained that night. Lost a couple of fish but never marked anything great.
I did manage to catch some small bream on worms, then catch a nice striper that night with them. Made an excellent lunch the next day. Really loved the campground. It’s a nice place.
Since I didn’t have any luck all week, I decided to take the family out Saturday night when we got back home. Put in at the dam, and drifted across the channel seeing a TON of bait on the surface and marking a lot of fish. Managed 1 keeper as the sun went down. Beautiful calm afternoon.
Then we headed out to my favorite hump outside of Jakes and set the spot lock, lights, and poles out. Had about 12 knockdowns, 1 cut line on the prop, and lost one as I dipped the net. I must be pretty rusty after a 10 month hiatus. We did manage 2 23" keepers and a big 27" keeper to close the night out at 11:30.
Kids were asleep on the deck and the wife helped net the last 2 fish close to midnight. What a great family to let daddy get some fishing in.
I must be really rusty, I forgot to pull up the trolling motor, and when I took off it ripped the screws out of the deck. Almost lost the whole thing. In my defense I did have the cooler on the bow so it was out of sight and out of mind. I have to get used to pulling the motor up. His remote setup makes it easy to forget you are using a trolling motor that need to be stowed away.
