Dreher island, striper trip,May 17/18

I just signed up for site 59 for Fri & Sat night, Scott may have to launch from your site if that is ok they didnt have anymore water front left

Awesome, absolutely you can use my waterfront property:smiley:. Hope you are bringing Zach along with you.

Yup I told him last night , he is excited

fish were scattered ,got 1 to the boat last nite(spit a circle hook)I camped overnite(b.crk) and all my bait died …next morning I thought I would paddle to dreher for some more…2 hrs. later nada around dreher…long paddle home ! The crk. was 75 degrees and I marked a lot of fish(lowerance, not p.o.s.)…the main lake was 69 deg. and I saw few. They weren’t in my favorite cove.(hopefully they are on the way)

Hey Murray

I’m planning checking out the park this coming weekend, just a drive by with no kayak. I have no camping gear, are there any decent & cheap hotels by the park?

Thanks

Hey Stinky, just talked to Murray. Hopefully we are gonna camp one night on a island real close to the fish grounds. All you need is a tent and sleep bag.

everyone murray asked me about the bait situation.i have 2 tanks that i can deliver fresh bait for you fellows.i was wondering how are you going to keep them alive in the yaks.do you want shiners or herring.the shiners will keep longer.let me kmow .

I’ve got galvinized steel 5 gal bucket that fits in my hatch.I put the bucket on top of a large blue ice to keep cool and add battery powered aereator.I have kept blue back herring alive for 8 hrs this way…I prefer herring and also am interested in some of those big azz shad they have at spinners(have you tried them.?..seems like only a bigun:smiley: would hit those) I know you like the shiners…I have not tried them…seems like bbh is the “standard” …how about a mixed bag ? …and we can try all of them. Thanks for your help Sharky

whatever yuo guy’s want.the big shad needs some seriuos oxygen.the bbs work fine.it’s just certain times of the year the shinners produce better.they all work.

Scot- if you don’t find the right kayak for Zach in time, he is welcome to borrow my sit-in Carolina. It is 12’9" with 2 flushmount rod holders in back.
Anyone else interested in this trip? You could come up for the day or camp on an island with us and fish 2 days.

Should know in the next day or two, if I will be able to make it. For those that use the fly rod was thinking about tying up some clousers figure on using some darker colors…any suggestions for patterns for the area.

Scott, thank I may take you up on that, I am going to try and repair a Tarpon 140 that has a crack in in it topside, if that doesnt work I will let you know, I have also aquired a plastic welder if anyone gets a hole or crack they want fixed after I practice alittle.

Also guess what else is going on that weekend http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/news/story?page=b_EventInfo_2008_CarolinaClash

knowing how much you like to trade stuff…if you get the 140 fixed, I’ll trade my 160 for your 140. I’ll keep the rudder though, knowing how much you don’t like them.
