Does anybody have the recipe for sailfish dip?
I disagre I think you shouldnt kill billfish not unless it is a grander and gonna bring some big money. If it wernt for Guy Harvey and the consevation work that he did around the world you prabally wouldnt be having this argument because there wouldnt be any to catch. Are goverment agencies are a bunch of idiots that regulate are fishing laws look at the snapper closure you have to use your on discretion. If that fish got tail wrapped are for any other reason died during the fight i understand other wise they are also idiots.

you shouldnt kill them at all, regardless of whether you could make money. That is the point. No one should try to kill billfish. If they die by mistake, for heavens sake eat them. Kill tournaments are stupid. Plain and simple regardless of the money. Big Rock 2009 was 460something pounder for folks to gawk at at the dock. Have they seen fish of that size before? Obviously…Move to all release tournaments. Our country is being irresponsible on this issue. The best fishermen catch the most fish, not the biggest just by chance.
Bet more than half of you guys cryn on here about killing a bill have gaffed and released a cuda or 3. Kinda makes you a hipocrit dont ya think. If its legal and dosnt get wasted, each to thier own. Just my to cents.
News flash: sailfish are not endangered! There is virtually no commercial bycatch in the Atlantic, the recreational take is minimal, and release mortality is very low. Why is it not OK to take one to eat? Because it has a pointy nose? The same people flaming someone on here for keeping a sail offer up congratulations when someone takes a giant bluefin or swordfish - talk about hypocritical! Don’t get me wrong; I’m all for releasing fish. But keeping a box full of tuna (undoubtedly an over-exploited species) or a sword certainly impacts our fisheries more than killing a single sail. Then again, releasing billfish is “cool,” and so is loading the boat with meatfish and gaffing and releasing cudas and AJs…
do people really gaff cudas and then though them back???
We gaff and release every cuda we can. Pain in my A$$ but thats what you get. Leave the kids alone if you dont know the whole story. I know…Yada Yada bout the catch and release but somtimes it doesnt happen that way, either on purpose or by accident. If it makes you feel better: YOU are doing a good job by not catching any fish and posting EVERY day.
Don’t forget the most important thing when you get your box full of sails… They have to be minimum of 63" from tip of lower jaw to the fork. That’s a decent size sailfish. I’m not saying that these guys didn’t measure, but for those who decide to keep one, consider that a reminder… We never measure them, but I would bet most caught in Chucktown don’t cut it…
I would take a guess that most that are caught are not 63". PQ said that your boat doesn’t raise any billfish. So that(size of sailfish) is second hand knowledge correct?
