Drone usage locally

Heard from a guy that heard from a guy that there were some citations issued locally for red snapper with drone video as the source/witness. No other details. Anyone heard of this or can cooborate??? No surprise really I guess just curious.

It is bird season?

Drones don’t have the capability to fly 20+ miles yet. Unless they have warheads and launched from a sub.

The Border Patrol and DHS, fly Predator Drones and you don’t know who they share data with!

I guess they could launch one from a CG ship offshore? Also not to say you have to go 20+ offshore to catch a ARS or 3. Caught probably 20 1-2lbrs at the R8 this summer. Just interesting to hear about if it’s true.

I would go into court and argue it was a Blackfin snapper. No way you could tell the difference from that far away, unless it’s a giant fish.

Going off of what Easy said, if they are using Predator drones then they are fully capable of launching them from Shaw AFB (or anywhere in SC or GA) and flying out to the ledge. They would still have enough left to follow you trolling all day. The flight time and distances on these drones are very impressive. Not to mention, they can cruise high enough to where you would hardly notice them but could still get a clear video/picture of every fish you haul into the boat. I haven’t heard of anyone using drones to do this but it would not suprise me these days. Or all the offshore guys should ask for some of these toys for Christmas.

I have seen federal DNR issue commercial guys tickets for fishing closed areas they had there numbers covered the guy said it was not him. They showed him a picture of his left arm the tatoo he had was a perfect match.I know the guy seen the picture. When your caught your caught.Pictures would hold up in court he laughed and said give me the ticket.

About the ticket or the blackfin snapper you can ask your buddy Mershon about the ticket.

I would take the photo in front of a jury of my peers and argue it’s a blackfin. I don’t think they make a camera with enough resolution to convict someone. I argued with 4 longtime fishermen all the way back to the dock that the fish I refused to throw back wasn’t a ARS. I didn’t even know they existed, but I knew what it wasn’t. There are other species that look close enough to cause reasonable doubt.

Redstripe; yea they do make those cameras!! My dad was a character witness for a guy at work that was ticketed for shrimping in closed waters in the Cape Fear , Fort Caswell area . He pleaded not guilty until NCDNR showed pics of him in boat, throwing net, closed area sign behind him , next picture you could read winston on the cig.
in his mouth. Pics were taken from approx 800 yds away…

I heard they ticketed a man for pooping offshore before he was out far enough from land… The drone picture of his bum hole was so good, he learned things about himself that day, and remembered what he had for lunch the day before…

Drone cameras are so good nowadays, they can even drag us into wars to search for WMDs that don’t even really exist…

The comm guy in MI that got the ticket his was taken by satellite.

They’ve had cameras since the 60’s that could take photos from 60,000 ft and you could read print from a book.

The capability is certainly there. Funding and resources, maybe, maybe not.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

I imagine Drone cameras have come a long ways. I remember seeing a few readable Licence plates on a clear day sent from a satellite.

I 've never heard DNR using them, but would not doubt it. I know several law agencies have requested Military Drones to help in drug raids.

Was playing with a drone over Christmas Holidays and even the “cheap” ones available to the public are pretty amazing what they show you at 400’. Didn’t drag us into a war, but it did show weapons of mass destruction from some rogue hunters across property lines.
