Drones????

My kids never really ask for much and we usually have to ask them for a Christmas list. So, this year, my oldest said he would like to have a small drone. He loves wandering around the state parks, nature preserves, etc., taking photographs so he though a drone would be cool.

After looking at them, prices range from under $100 to $$$$$$$. I don’t want to spend a fortune but, I want to get a decent one he will enjoy. I have pretty much decided on a DJI Mavic Mini 2 as it has great reviews and DJI is a well respected drone company.

I am looking for any advice, words or wisdom, etc. from anyone with any drone savvy.

Thanks

SHOCKED I COULD ACTUZALLY START A POST. BEEN TRYING FOR @ WEEKS T POST THIS.

Make sure you read any reviews about how it is in wind. Often those small drones can’t handle wind or compensating for high wind drains the battery.

One of our lead guys is kind of a techno nerd. He got into drones a couple years ago even got his license. We were looking at some waterproofing issues at a high rise in Myrtle Beach.
And all the sudden the thing just got a wild hair and flew off into the wild blue yonder over the ocean to never be seen again… it was a $2,500 drone. The one he replaced it with was almost $3000

He’s got a side gig video properties for realty companies. And doing roof inspections for insurance companies.

You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.

Yeah, “flying away” on it’s own was a concern I have. DJI offers an "insurance: policy that covers fly-a-ways, crash/water damage, etc. The one I am getting my son is no where near what your friend spent.

My kids got me one a couple years ago for my Birthday. Not sure the cost, but it does not like wind. Look into getting a second battery for it as well. I found it aggravating when my battery died and I had to wait for it to recharge. From a couple that use them commercially, I’ve been told you’ll spend upwards of $1500 for a decent one with a good camera, range, and wind stability. I know not much help… What ever you get I hope it works out well for ya!

Thanks. I found a “bundle”, charger, 3 batteries, etc… I think this will be a good one for him to start with.
