Drop Net Shrimping

Anyone ever used drop nets with herring clipped in with close hangers dropped off the side of a train trestle…

Come on you know what Im talking about. Late at night, dark as hell, 3-4ft hoop nets, some sketch place in North Chuck, a flash light the size of your head, sketchy path to walk down.

Quit doing it at this spot around late 80’s due to finding other dock spots. Biggest shrimps ever seen in dim nets. Would use the lights to shine down to see their eyes, when you got enough bugs just lift them nets. Seemed as if the nets were dropped off the trestle 30’ or better.

Got stories about seining the creek from side to side…so many shrimp in the net the boat was gonna sink…Good times! Thanks Yemassee boys!!!

Did it back in the 70’s off Pitt street bridge (burn out bridge) Heard it is illegal to have a drop net in a boat, don’t know if that is true, but we caught a lot of shrimp.

Edgewater Park bridge is the honey hole

I’ve seen it done before and yes they had a mess of shrimp and crabs in the bucket when they left. I made some hoops to try it but, never finished and tried it.
