I’ve got a 1720 Key West Sportsman that has self bailing scuppers right at or just below the water line when loaded…well, if not plugged there always is water sloshing around in the boat. When plugged, water does not enter but trying to wash fish blood out of the boat is a pain. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with “duck bill scuppers”. I’m familiar with the ping pong ball type which work fine but tend to make noise when drifting. Would sure welcome any input on the duck bill type as these are new to me…thanks.
I would suggest using a rubber or cork stopper/plug. You can get them at most hardware stores. Plug the scupper from the inside the boat and all you have to do is pull them out when need be.

I had a 1720 for a while and it did the same thing. It had ping-pong ball type. I had the rubber ones before too, not much more luck.
Get the rubber plugs from the hardware store for cold weather, learn to love the water sloshing around in warm weather.
You have an awesome boat, but every boat has issues - small key west boats seem to have scupper issues. Love it for what it is.

My brother-in-law has one, he put the ping pong ball ones on. They work better if you keep them clean. The duck bill ones will leak also, so I’m with everybody else, just plug them and pull the plugs if you need to rinse it out. That is the only thing I don’t like about his boat. When I go with him my feet stay wet the whole time. In my boat, if your feet get wet, it’s either really rough or its raining.

I’ve got the rubber plugs already but was looking for something a little easier to rinse out the boat when not under way…but thanks for all the comments. I kinda figured that the duck bill scuppers weren’t really the answer but just had to ask…

Rep at gemlux actually just suggested them to me last week. I called to get info on scuppers with rubber flaps, he suggested the ones with out the flap. He said there is a keeper that will hold the duck bill flappers in. Says it works very well. Also says it’s easier to replace just the insert when they wear out.
Have not ordered them yet though. If I do I will update this.

I replaced mine with the ball type, didn’t recall them being noisy, but they would fail if the smallest bit of trash got caught up in them. I ended up replacing them with the rubber flapper type. Haven’t had a problem since…
A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.
not on the same boat but I had the same sort of problem- i put a drain hole in the floor to go to the bilge, added bilge pump and put pullring plugs in the scupper holes. works really well for me.
pull one/both of the plugs and voila- instant wash down
hole really helps drain the bote after bringing wet Boykin over the rail after a swim in the river
