Dumb VHF question

Arguing back and forth with my Dad and uncle about this… We installed my new vhf flush mount on the the helm, and the rubber seal isn’t sitting flush on the fiberglass. I’m saying it needs to be flush and they’re saying it’s not

Can anyone clarify? It seems like common sense to me to have the rubber flush and keeping out any moisture. Not sure what’s going on in their heads, but now I’m questioning myself

Who cares? winning an argument is everything!

You didn’t cut the hole big enough

Get some KY jelly and it will fit!

I think looper nailed it. Yes you want the rubber gasket to fit flush to seal the opening. Some radios recommend not mounting them on a horizontal surface, for just this reason combined with seepage . Did you read the installation instructions? ( I know, the horror!!)

Break out the file. Looks like a sportsman and that is where mine is mounted too because there just isn’t anywhere else to mount it.
