Up at the sender at the tank, cut the wires and touch them together. If the gas gauge goes to full, then it’s the sender. If the gauge needle doesn’t move then you can use a multi-meter at the gauge and read in DC volts 1-5 volts, 1 is empty and 5 is full. So if you touch the wires together them you would read 5 VDC on the meter. I’m pretty sure that’s how mine worked anyway. I’m sure one these guys who do this all the time will correct me where I am wrong. Hope this helps.

Don’t cut the wires at the tank unless completely sealed. You can use a jumper wire to test without cutting.

No need to cut them, just short them together with a screwdriver or something.

Thank-you!! I can never get the search feature to work.

There is a hatch under the seat. Exposing the sending unit. I used a jumper wire and went between the two terminals with the key on and there was no movement. I will take the screws out of the panel this evening and test the gauge, but I think the gauge is bad… Thanks all for the help and advise!!

I had to cut mine because they were sealed where they went into the sender, no where to short together. Fun part was having my friend stand close by with a fire extinguisher while I used a heatgun to shrink wrap the buttsplicers back once I repaired the sender. It was full of corrosion and oxidized powder. Cleaned and epoxied it back together…no more problems.

Bad wire connections are the highest fail part of the system.

Yes sir, I will check for that too once I get the panel off. It was a bit too cold to mess with it yesterday evening. I work better when I can feel my fingers!! :sunglasses:

Why cut wires when you don’t have to? Unless it is sealed, like a weema sender. I know it won’t spark, hence the using a jumper wire.

Just make sure the connections are still good and not all corroded.
