Durablue?

I picked up a 25 yr old Marlin 22lr plinker really cheap - $35. Problem is the barrel has some rusty areas, not real bad. For a fun project I want to completely refurb the barrel and stock. Looking at durablue spray in black for the barrel - anybody used it? Also any recommendation for a walnut finish to for the stock?

I haven’t used the Durablue but have used Duracoat a lot. My recommendation is to stay away from the Shake and Spray kit. They tend to put out way too much material unless you have a light touch. I went to an airbrush to apply. It atomizes the material much better and you get a smooth finish versus contending with runs.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Thanks Salty, that’s helpful to know. I am pretty deadly with a rattle can but your point is well taken. :sunglasses:

Duracoat products are thinner than your typical Krylon on application. It takes about 1/2 as much material to develop a run, maybe less. Not sure on the Durablue but the only way to get a run out of Duracoat is to immediately wipe down with acetone or wait for it to cure some then sand it off. I’ve done 5 guns total, 3 with the airbrush. I haven’t had one run or uneven finish with the airbrush.

It’s just a bottle. It can be applied from a Preval sprayer available at Lowe’s. Or use an airbrush or small detail spray gun.

I’ll check the color when I get home and report back.
