Bonzo took his first ever offshore trolling trip on board the Eager Beaver II and caught his first dolphin, wahoo and cuda!
put in at Wapoo around 5:30 and headed towards the SW Banks with the Cuz, Bob and Mark on Capt Derek’s 26 Sailfish…conditions were not bad on the way out and we put lines in at around 100’…trolled 7 lines and were rewarded with an itty bitty dolphin within 20 minutes or so…picked at them all day and circled around until we got out over 500’…Bob made the call to get shallower and we continued to pick at fish all afternoon…we never found the temp break, as I hear it was a bit further South…stayed within a degree of 74 all day long…wet trip back in but we were able to boat 4 dolphin, 1 wahoo, 1 kingfish and 1 cuda who was released…thoroughly enjoyed the trip and I think the crew jelled pretty good…thanks so much guys!
the rest of the story…in pictures…
in between waves…
and in the waves…
Bob was nice enough to switch sides with me on the return trip
the Cuz wondering what we have gotten ourselves into…

I’m ready…we did alot of moving around started at 1300’…few… moved in some …few more through back several small ones.ended with 4 good size ones…looking at the pictures my 4 looked to be about 1"-1 1/2" bigger than yours… they tasted good though
Nice work Bonzo. One of the things you will learn is how to jockey for position on the way home to make sure you are on the dry side of the boat. Its key in offshore fishing and something most people never think about. I usually bring a rainsuit and offer to sit in a captains chair at the helm that will be a wet ride but comfortable nonetheless.
yea, Fritz, I guess “knowing where the dry spots are” is about #682 on my list of offshore things to remember for the next trip…on the return ride I just put my rain gear on and drank beer…a LOT of beer was consumed, trust me!
