Fished the Marlin Quay meatfish slam tournament. After some slow reports from the hole and a week of good fishing at the scarp we decided to fish to the east this trip. Weatherman said winds would pick up after lunch. Ride out and fishing was beautiful until about 1:00, then the breeze picked up. Plenty of bait and marks all the way up thru the scarp. Picked fish throughout the day. Ended up with 13 nice dolphin, 3 wahoo, a king, and a sailfish release. Fished between 140’ and 240’ for most of the day. Hardly saw a flyer all day until I fished back to where I started and water pushed inshore and there were thousands of flyers, but only the boat shoving them. Could not find the elusive blackfin for the slam! I know they were there, got em earlier in the week. Oh well. Ride home got sporty. Ready to go again.
