Started Thursday with a party at theWinyah Scarp. Multiple slow reports from the south and one report of some fish from the scarp may my choice to go north. Not a lot of bait on the shallow side but bait and marks in 180’ to 240’. Worked that depth to the north. No real big bite, no real big lulls in action. Tunas were on the small side, had a lot of short strikes. Ended up with a good box of fish.
Had the boat owner for Friday’s trip. Still slow reports from the south and after Thursday’s catch had to go back to the Scarp. Same conditions as day before. Bait in 180’ to 240’, tunas were shoving flyers and showing themselves a little better. A lot more boats on Friday. Fishing was slower. Had a young lady on board for first trip, caught her first tuna and dolphin.
Saturday had another party, mission for the day was for a first tuna and first dolphin for another first time angler. With a crowd moved into the scarp on a calm Saturday I thought long and hard about going to the Georgetown Hole. Satellite picture showed a little cooler water a couple miles to the east of the scarp, and just a big blob of hot water covering the hole and all around it. I decided to give the hole try. Started in 135’ inside on a little current edge with a little grass in it. One dolphin before we got all lines in. Made way to break and not a lot of bait. At 11:00 was thinking I may have gone the wrong way. Only 1 dolphin and 1 blackfin. Worked down the ledge and found a good tide edge, and the tunas shoving flyers. The fish began to cooperate. Caught some bigger tunas along with some footballs and another couple dolphin. Our angler caught her first dolphin and tuna and caught about all the fish for the day. BONUS: she caught her first sailfish.
