Fished the Georgetown Wahoo tournament on Friday. Fished the north side of Georgetown hole where we have caught a few wahoo last 2 trips. Fished mainly 180 to 280’. Bait was a little scarce, water was hot and green and the scattered grass was pretty tough. Worked a few reliable rocks and managed to catch 5 wahoo, 3 blackfins, couple barracudas and bonitas as well. My 11 year old son graduated from the fighting chair to standup and caught a 32# wahoo, as well as his first sailfish. Big day for us!!
Got a crew together late Sunday afternoon to try and catch a few more wahoo and sailfish on Monday. We started off on the ledge where we ended the previous trip, 930’s, and worked to the south in 180 to 280’. Set out on the break and in the first two minutes the long rigger comes down from a miss, my son started jigging the line and comes tight on a sailfish.Fought the grass again and pushed in on the break to try and work to the south inside of the grass. Found 2 wahoo in there with some bonitas and cudas. Got down to the 980’s was able to work from200 to 500’ without any grass. Kept pushing to the south found tunas shoving flyers in 500’ and got covered up. Everyone with a tuna on tld 25s and 6-8 tunas crushing both squid chains, it was a sight! Saw a sail cutting bait while fighting the tuna and had a wahoo swim up and check out squid gain while it was hanging in the rigger. Got tunas in boat, set back out. See a sailfish come to chain, goes to my short bridge rod, have him hooked, two more eating left squid chain, a fourth on the right short rigger. First one pulled off, 0 for 4. Oh well!!
Ended up with 3 wahoo, 6 blackfins, a dolphin and one sail release. Had a few crew members that have never seen any of the above and where awestruck. Great day in the ocean.
