I have a 70hp 1980 model Johnson that was passed down to me from a boat my dad & I fished on when I was a kid. Motor sat for a few years before I put it on a Scout I bought. I’m having trouble with it at higher RPM’s. Will bog down sometimes above 2K then run fine and then do it again. Dosent seem to matter if its cold or hot. Fuel is good ethenol free and I cant find any leaks. Bulb is staying tight. I rebuilt carbs but I’m no expert. Any thoughts or things to check? If I cant figure it out it’s on the way to ChrisV.
I’m having the same issues. My mechanic will look at it the first of the week(I hope).
He tells me it is probably the diaphragm pin in the vro that is stuck.

I’ll update after the mechanic has a look-see to confirm if that was the problem.

sounds like a carb still
how did you clean the carbs for the rebuild?
Chris
A friend did it for me. One of them was missing a jet but I got him a new one. What would cause it to run fine some or the time and not at others. If I get it to you Monday could you get to it this week?
Chris It ran like that when it was cold then got better then started doing it again. When I throttled up it died several times. I had the cowl off and i manually throlled up at the carbs and it did great then I ran the control up and it did fine. I went through the range of the throttle several times even cutting it off and restarting it and it did fine until on the way back then it would not go past about 1500 without bogging down.
