Left at 4am Sat out of the cut and we were the first ones on the ledge in my buddy Wes’s 28 Hydrasport. A little snotty, but we hauled butt out there passing folks left and right! Immediately stopped on a floating pallet in 160’ and picked up some smaller Dolphin. Bite was non stop for about an hour and a half. We picked up 6 Mahi, 1 BF Tuna, and a very pretty Sail behind the birds in the prop wash. He stabbed at the bait and Mark dropped the naked hoo back to Mr. Sail…Dunzo, perfect hookup.
Early bite was great, slow mid morning, and we picked up some meatfish mid day before heading back. Missed a Daymaker due to the mono cut off.
Ended the day with:
15 Dolphin
BF Tuna
Sailfish (was revived and released healthy)
Maybe you should have said that is was of legal length and that you took it home for the grill…
I have heard the meat is white and flaky…[:0]

NMFS strongly encourages releasing all billfish alive. An Atlantic billfish harvested from its management unit that is not retained must be released in a manner that will ensure maximum probability of survival, but without removing the fish from the water.</font id=“red”>
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS</font id=“blue”></font id=“size2”>
All non-tournament Atlantic billfish that are landed recreationally must be reported to NMFS by vessel owners or their designee within 24 hours of landing at the dock (for MD and NC landings, see below). This must be done online at www.hmspermits.gov, or by phone at (800) 894-5528. If reporting by phone, the vessel owner will be asked to provide their name, phone number, HMS permit number, species caught, and size of fish. NMFS will return the call and provide a confirmation number for the reported landing. The reporting process is not complete until NMFS has supplied a confirmation number.
And I also strongly encourage a boatside release…there is also a high fatality rate on fish caught using j hooks. Circle hooks are used by few in this area.

1)always have the tape in the picture from now on . In fact, I bet they would do just fine on the green egg
2)the meat then has a lot in common with some of this site's famous fishing critics

Actually, I have cleaned one before (oops) that was caught on a friend’s boat. Very easy to clean.
The fish swallowed a hook (way down), and after a long time (~45 min) of me trying to revive the fish, the boat owner decided to fit it in his large fish box. I hated to see it die, but at least it did not go to waste. I would have loved to see it swim off to give another angler a good bend in the rod…
