Early Christmas Presents

I went out today with my good fishing buddy to a good flats spot we were tipped off about. Neither of us are very experienced fishermen but we have been having fun over the past few weeks trying to figure it out together. We got out there about two hours before low tide and searched and searched for fish in this extremely vast labyrinth of oyster beds. We would poll around the flats, then move under motor to another spot, then poll around some more. We really dont know what we’re doing! But by the grace of God, we stumbled on a very nice school of redfish! When I saw the mud clouds all around the boat I knew we had spooked something big. So we doubled back and dropped anchor and started casting. Before long, I hooked up on a nice 30 incher! It was so good to finally get one! After we released him we kept fishing but it seemed that the school had moved on because nothing was biting and we couldnt see any fish. The wind was picking up and we both needed to be back for Xmas festivities so we decided to head out. But we had only gone about 30 yards when our motor spooked the entire school again! Seeing these huge fish dart all around us in 2 feet of water was simply amazing! We decided to double back so we could both leave with a catch and before long, my friend had a 23 incher on the line. We threw him in the cooler and headed home with smiles.

I have to say, there was some key advice I read on these forums that helped stop our skunk streak! So thank you all for your knowledgeable posts!

Nice report. I dig the pole.

Awesome! What were you guys using for bait?

Caught these guys on Zman minnowz and streakz. We also threw out live mud minnows on the bottom and under floats but they wouldn’t take them. Seemed strange to me

Wow, so they turned down live bait for plastic. Looks like you guys are fast learners. Good job!
