Early spring back country flies???

I have tried the search on this topic for a few days and it doesnt seem to be working. I usually fish murrels inlet from my kayak and was wondering what flies would provide the best chance of a hook up this time of year. Never really been out this early in spring/late in winter so just curious what most others are using. Targeting anything really…reds, trout, etc…

Flies (like everything else) are trendy but, those four flies have caught salt fish for years and years and…

Thanks for the input. That pretty much looks like my flybox right now. Got a few merkins and clousers are a staple for sure. I always heard the darker colors are better in winter, so I am guessing that still applies in March. I have some black clousers, black/white, olive/white. Have a few bucktail decievers, but they are chartuse. Threw in a couple M4’s and a copper head or two. Just making sure all bases are covered since I am pretty far from the fish so most trips are an event in themselves between distance, work, and a toddler. Thanks dude.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>“Dark water=dark flies”, “thinner flies in winter months”, etc… Lots of general rules but, having the “correct” fly could just as likely leave you fishless. Time on the water is probably the biggest factor. :sunglasses:

PS If I had only 4 flies, two of them would be Clousers. :wink:

Is that a zonker strip for the tail on the dark brown fly, or is that craft fur ??? Best looking fly I have seen with chenille of that type …
