my name is Rafael, i currently live next to a marsh area in north Charleston (park circle area), and every time i look over at this section of marsh i’m saddened to see it so littered and abused by man, this is a tide affected area, it stays shallow mostly but floods at tides, but when the water comes the trash starts to float. In the early 90s (from what i’m told) some one came and dumped a load of bad tires in the marsh.and looks so sad. my property boarders this marsh and my deck over looks it, there’s a strip of property is in front and side of it, so i came up with a idea. cut a path throw the small tree lining ( 4/6’ wide tree lining) for front access. and there’s a access under the deck as well.
I’m not the richest man so i can’t pay people, but i’m a hell of a cook, and i was thinking, i could smoke 2 or 3 pork butts a box of burgers & dogs from Sams and make some good side dishes, and even provide sodas and some beers (21 and up for alcohol). and ask for help form local charlestonians, With this being a outdoorzie forum i figured here was a good start. any opinions or criticism would be help full, this is just in the starting stages. there’s no date/time set or any thing yet but figured id see if people would even be interested in lending me and mother nature a hand. below are some pictures of the property. let me know what ya thing please and thank you!
*there is water at this location at high tide, knee high or so but just muddy mostly in between tides.
Pretty sad
Might get the interest of boy scouts or church group looking to do some community service?
Wouldn’t be surprised if you can get a group from CF.com
ill look into the scouts and churches optiker thanks for the suggestion & thanks for the link hairball i’m going to check it out. tiger06, its feed by the noisette creek i’m on the corner of buist and o’hear, any chance you know the name of the group or a way to get in touch with them? thanks for the ideas guys means alot.
Where is the creek and do you have any arrangements for hauling the garbage? I’ve participated in clean up operations in national forests before and it is amazing how much trash you can pull out of one area. I’m sure I could get a crew together on a weekend to help (food and beer provided but my boat is too purdy to be a garbage barge.
this is right off land, no boat needed, all tho there is plenty of mud. My address is 1025 Buist ave 29405 if you Google map it you can see around the area but not in the marsh my house is the yellow one on the corner of Buist an o’hear, i can provide the bags and the trash service will take all debris including tires and other large debris i just have to drag it out. also i have few 2-3 friends me and my wife even my son are willing to stomp in the mud and help,We are willing to do what ever we can! Food and beers will surely be on me! my thinking that i could run a tow strap down the bank and pull the tires up over the bank instead of manually dragging them out one by one. and i’ve tried to reach some groups but to no avail, but i think i’m just going to throw a earth day party seams like it be more fun. and with the chance to meet good people, eat good food and enjoy good weather wile drinking cold beer. going to schedule it soon and just post the date here and on my fb maybe even craigslist. and hope people show up.
I would be willing to help as a PC resident as well. But, it will come at a cost. After this little area is cleaned up, we hit Filbin Creek. That place is a mess and is also where I put the boat in 99% of the time. Let me know of dates/plans and I’ll be there.
Also, I have a small utility trailer that is great for hauling crap.
sounds like a plan! that’s where i put as well, and its rough looking i would love to help clean it up as well! so it sounds like i need to come up with some type of schedule ill keep ya posted. Thanks alot!
