EB 10/27

My son and I played hooky on Friday to do some live baiting on the ledge. Second fish of the morning was 120.8 lb wahoo. My son landed him in 40 minutes. Had to leave after that as he wouldn’t fit in fish box and I didn’t want him spoiling on deck. Awesome day and great memory with my son.

You’re a great dad!

Good Lord…Congrats! Lifetime fish for u both!

Great catch, hooked for life.

Awesome !!

Kudos to your son…pretty sure the wahoo outweighed him by a good bit.

Oh yeah definitely. It had over 40 lbs on him

That is awesome. He will never forget that fish I can assure you.

Wow!

What a day

Awesome #128079;. What did it eat?

The fish ate a live menhaden.

Have to ask - did your son fight that monster while standing?

Good Gracious that’s a huge one!! Been fishing all my life and 72# is the biggest I’ve ever caught and 86# is the biggest I’ve seen brought on any boat I’ve been on.

Just got to looking and 130# is the SC record, your son was not far off.

184# is the standing world record because a 202# caught in florida was fought by three anglers making it ineligible for the record. Disclaimer: I didn’t not know that, but just Googled it.

He fought the fish in an Okuma Metaloid 5 reel with 50 lb braid. The reel is about the size of a freshwater baitcasting reel but puts out over 20lbs of drag. The fish hit the rod in the t top and by the time I got it out of the t top, handed it to my son and got the boat pointed toward the fish there was only about 20 yards of braid left on the spool out of 450 yards. He fought the fish standing in the bow of the boat with the boat on a plane for a little while until we got a couple hundred yards of braid. back on the spool.

No. I didn’t see him hit. I was changing out the downrigger bait and not looking up. My son was driving.
