Put in this morning just before dead low. Had a chilly ride over to spot #1 and got on a couple nice schools of spottails. Conditions were perfect this morning. As we eased down the bank we spooked the first big school of about 50-70 fish. I had decided to stick to artificial today and it paid off big time. It took me a while to fond a bait they liked, but it wound up being a small DOA with some pro cure twitching on the bottom right in front of their face. It’s been a while since I could actually get close enough to see the fish I was casting to, so I had a blast until the tide came up and we couldn’t see the fish any more.
Then we started blind casting to oyster points and wound up finding even more fish. I pulled 4 fish off of the same point on 4 consecutive casts. All fish today were lower slot fish with one under and one that came unbuttoned at the boat that was probably over. I’m not sure how many were caught, but I believe it was in the twenties before they moved up in the grass or moved on. We actually were catching them so good at one time that the pelicans came over to us and were following us around.
Then we went down river to put the smackdown on some trout. Again went with the DOA with a little pro cure and stopped at only one spot and caught lots of fish and missed lots more.
We wound up keeping 3 slot reds and the only two keeper trout we caught. I had an absolute blast today, wish I could get down more often this time of year.
