1st trip ever for fishing offshore in our own boat. I’ve heard the Edisto 40 wouldn’t be too exciting, but we had a blast.
Rookie late start 9:30am edisto. Conditions were excellent. Came in about 5pm when it got choppy.
Catch
6 Red Drum (5 Big bulls 30-40")
Dozens of BSB (7 keepers)
1 Sheepshead Black Drum keeper
a few dozen Bluefish
1 trout
Our best action was when we sat on this (on sonar)? It was huge seemed to be at least 100 feet wide, what are we seeing here anyway? (bait fish, red drum?)
When mine lights up like that it’s normally black sea bass or reds. Went out to the Edisto 60 yesterday and got about 20 keeper bsb and 1 21" flounder. Also that might be a weakfish, not a trout. If the spots are small and plentiful it’s a weakfish, and you’re only allowed to keep 1 over 12". Great Day out there yesterday!

That’s awesome! Looks like a fun and successful first time out.
Dmann33, or anyone here, how far and long is the ride to Edisto 40 from the jetties or from N. Edisto inlet?
People have differing opinions on here about eating bluefish. I eat them the day I catch them and think they’re great (maybe I’m just that good of a chef). I don’t freeze them and save them, however. How do they taste to you, dmann?
We used to catch big blues (10lbs) all the time in Chesapeake. Wife came up with a great recipe. She pulled apart the meat and substituted it for carb meat on Old Bay recipe. Nobody could tell it was not crab:smiley:
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
