My bride of almost 19 yrs accompanied me on the water today, and we had a large time. I like to fish early and my family doesn’t (precious sleep!)
I have been trying hard to pattern the area for the last few years and as Bob Sanders would say, you have to pay your dues before Mother Nature will give up some of her secrets. I think she is pitying me by now I’d also like to acknowledge RadDaddy, a friend I haven’t yet met in person, for giving me a little direction - and it has really helped,Thanks RAD!
First drop was at a familiar flat, and the fish were there. Leaping out of the water In fact, we saw a flatty jump clear out of the water, the second time I’ve seen that, and it was in the same spot. She said it looked like a frying pan jumping.
We chunked plugs and it wasn’t long before I get a nice red on, momentarily, then off. Shortly thereafter, she hooks up a nice trout on the spook jr. Another “flats” trout, finding the trout on the flats is a new thing for me.
Kept at it, tried the fly rod but no takers - as is typical for Edisto, the water is quite dirty making sight fishing near impossible. Moved back down the bank and tried the skitter walk again. Pow! Nice red on… Got it to the boat finally and its a really nice red, my biggest topwater red at 28.75"

Put a seafood special (butterflied finger mullet and salad shrimp) out and before I could get another rod rigged, big take and big pop. This happened 2 more times so instead of re-rigging every 5 min, I decided to move up the bank to another good looking spot.
Put a rod out and within 2 minutes a big take. My wife is on the rod. Stripped about 100 yds of dra
