Taking the family, and boat, to edisto for the week. Any pointers? Never been to the area before. We are driving all the way from James Island. I fish Stono and ICW mostly. Thanks in advance for any advice. Chris

That’s funny! you could be there quicker by boat. Basically the Same fishing as you have in the stono. Just watch for sand and mud flats. North and South Edisto can be tricky navigating. Many recent posts on asking for fishing tips in that area. Biggest thing to watch for is a smaller boat in the Sound, a little wind can make for some nasty boating.

Thanks Fred. I figured it would be similar. I’m a cut or live bait on a Carolina rig kinda fishermen. Just looking forward to relaxing. I just about have the wife convinced to drive back with the trailer so my daughter and I can boat home. Gonna be fun!

Do some Google Earth and look at Morgan Island. Early in the morning and late afternoon seems to be what everyone is telling me as the best time to see the Monkeys. When I get to the house I’ll see if I can snip a screen shot for you. Run up Morgan creek and you’ll come to a High bluff with a dock, and you can’t miss the “do not Molest the Monkeys” signs. Just up from the dock near the live oak leaning over the water is a decent trout spot.

Go to Bonzos’ and you’ll see a monkey and a big FAT cat.
Don’t let those monkeys near the boat. They’ll steal everything that isn’t nailed down…take some fruit to trade for you stuff.
Never had any come close to the boat, have seen them come on the dock and also had one run down a limb and steal a grub that I miss casted in a tree. Not suppose to feed them anything … but a handful of whole corn (deer corn) may work well and can be thrown at a distance. Also had a good laugh when my son chunked a spicy hot wing a good few years ago.
Was talking with a caretaker last August and she said the Monkey don’t come to the high bluff as much. They think someone has been mean to the monkeys and scared some of the troops away from that area. Suppose to be 3600 breeding adults, the babies get harvested to be sent all over the World for research. They are affiliated with the Two Monkey Farms in Yemassee. Lot’s of rumors about the place, but no they don’t infect them with aids or any other diseases on the Island.

They do also come to the middle of the south side of the island just below where the blue line ended. There is a little cove behind the mud flat point.(careful at low tide) There are several big plywood warning signs along that bank and a trail road that comes to the water. Late in the day they usually will be there.
