Fished at the banks yesterday on the “Last One”. Lines in the water about 8:15 for a late start. Action was great until about 10:00. Put 9 very nice dolphin in the box. Largest was 26 pound bull, another near that size. The next to largest bull had three cut off balleyhoo in it’s belly - but ole Black Bart gave him a stomach ache. The rest of the stomachs were empty.
We had to leave early to get the boys back home to study for exams. We stopped over a good looking spot on the ledge and dropped a couple of butterfly jigs. Had a nice fish on immediately and then another 30 seconds later. The first one was a big reef donkey but the second fish was the daymaker a real nice 15 pound gag. We caught two more amberjacks and had another big fish pull off before we headed for the hill.
Right on the break between 160 and 185 feet. The finder showed a lot of live bottom. As soon as the first jig hit the bottom, we picked up the AJ. The grouper hit about 30 seconds later. I had a big fish on after we picked up the first AJ. I was using an AVET 2 30 class speed with no tip on the gimbal butt end and it pained me a bit. Before I could recover he got off. Next time I’ll be ready. We only fished 15 minutes. That little AVET MX and the skinny Shimano Trevala rod is the ticket.
10-4 on the fish weights, some others need to take a look at that dolphin because that is what a mid 20s looks like. nice work on the grouper on the way home
The big bull was actually a 40 + pounder but the Bocca Grip scale only measured him at 26 pounds.

They can be decieving. Most of the "35-40#" fish around here are probably in their high 20's. A 27 lb fish is still much bigger than average right now. Also, a #15 gag is a nice fish. I saw someone post a picture here last week of a "20-25#" gag and I would believe this one would be pretty ■■■■ close to it. Regardless, you guys got a box of nice sized dolphin.
When we pulled it out of the box, the next door neighbor asked how much it weighed. We told him. He then said “no d**n way”. Dolphin will fool you.
BTW - The big kid is 6-4 230 - to compare the dolphin’s length. Gonna be a good one on the FB field. Started OL last year for SPBTG High in the 10th grade.
We had a great time. I can’t wait till this weekend to go again.
