My wife and I left Bennetts Point at 5:00 and headed out at about 25 knots for our 3rd ever trip on new boat. Had 6 lines in at 350’ and pulled for an hour with nothing. Had 2 older Penn 330LD’s as flatlines when the portside rod gets hit hard. Sailfish on! For 20 minutes I fought that thing with everything I had. The drag wouldn’t hold him so I burnt my fingers trying to keep him from spooling me twice. Finally got him boatside but knew I couldn’t bring him on board without injuring him or us so I made the decision to cut him loose. Showed the video to an experienced friend and he estimated around 55 lbs. The sail was intact and it was a beautiful fish. Caught 2 dolphin later on a double hookup and called it a day around 2:00. Rode back in at 35 knots on glass. Flyers everywhere so I guess the fish weren’t too hungry. Still, I will take this day anytime! Special thanks again to Capt. Ed Keelin for the awesome rigs.
